Frequently Asked Questions
HOW LONG IS EACH COUNSELLING SESSION AND HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED TO RESOLVE MY CONCERNS?
While a 50-minute therapy session is a common standard, many of my clients find a longer session to be a more effective and comfortable way to work, particularly for trauma processing therapy. I offer longer sessions such as 75-minute or other extended-length sessions for clients who prefer to have more time. Over many years in practice, I have found that meeting for focused longer sessions can reduce the overall number of sessions required to process through challenges.
Most of my clients initially see me on a weekly or biweekly basis for a period of active work. They reduce the frequency and length of sessions and/or end therapy as they accomplish key therapy goals. Whatever goals and issues you are seeking help with, we can create a realistic plan that can accomplish some goals in just a few sessions, or create a sustainable plan for longer-term work when indicated.

Specialized forms of therapy such as Attachment-Focused EMDR, Reconsolidation Therapy and Psychedelic -Assisted Therapy have unique requirements and idiosyncrasies that we can discuss further if you are interested in one of those approaches.
To give you a sense of the time required, recent onset sleeping difficulties, recent loss, situational panic attacks, phobias and life transitions may benefit from just 4 to 6 sessions. In other cases, to resolve more complex concerns such as early childhood trauma or neglect, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety, chronic or recurrent conditions involving pain, anxiety or depression may benefit from longer term therapy.
In our intake session we will discuss your most pressing concerns and goals and develop a plan to help you benefit from our work together.
